Vigyan Vidushi Program in Mathematics
Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai is organizing a two-week summer school, the Vigyan Vidushi program in Mathematics (VV2023-Mathematics) for Indian women students in mathematics. VV2023-Mathematics will be held at the TIFR Mumbai Campus. The aim of this program is to expose participants to some advanced core topics in mathematics and encourage them to consider research in mathematics as a career option.
The selected students will get an opportunity to attend short lecture courses on a variety of topics. There will also be special lectures and interaction sessions with women researchers.
Eligibility:
- Women students enrolled in the first year of a two-year MSc degree program in mathematics, or the fourth year of an Integrated BSc-MSc degree program in mathematics (or equivalent).
- Exceptionally good, motivated women students in the final year of their bachelor degree program or the third year of an Integrated BSc-MSc degree program in mathematics (or equivalent) may also apply.
Dates: 3 - 14, July, 2023

For the online registration process, please keep the following ready :
a) Scanned photo (.jpg file of size not exceeding 100kb) of your passport size photograph.
b) Names, Affiliation, Designation, Contact address (both e-mail and physical address) and contact phone numbers of two referees who would be filling referee reports for you. They should be teachers or persons with whom you have interacted academically.
c) Consolidated mark sheets in pdf format.

Program:
There will be short courses on
- topics in algebra,
- topics in topology and geometry,
- topics in real and complex analysis.
The courses will focus on strengthening basic understanding of core mathematical concepts. Even if some of the topics may seem familiar, conveying the unique perspectives of active researchers will be an essential feature of this summer school.
In addition to the regular courses, the VV2023-Mathematics will have
- special lectures by established women mathematicians, and
- interaction sessions with women mathematicians who are at various career stages.
Travel reimbursements
Outstation participants will be paid the eligible round trip train fare by the shortest route from the railway station nearest to their place of residence (this is taken as the address for correspondence given in your application; any different address needs prior permission) to Mumbai. Those travelling by air will be paid the eligible train fare.
Please note that you are required to submit the original of your onward journey ticket and copy of your return journey ticket along with the travel reāimbursement form when you arrive for the program. Participants travelling by air and claiming travel reimbursement will be required to produce the air ticket and the boarding pass.
Accommodation
Participants will be provided accommodation on campus.
Expected arrival: After 8 AM on 2 July, 2023.
Expected departure: Before 10 AM on 15 July, 2023.
Others
Local food expenses of participants for the entire duration of the programme will be covered by the Institute.
